Fairbanks man killed in Steese Highway crash
A Fairbanks man is dead after a driver ran a red light Saturday night, authorities say.
Police say 73-year-old William Ambrose, Sr. was killed after his 2008 Ford Focus was struck by a Ford F-250 Saturday night around 9:30.
Ambrose was traveling westbound on Third Street to turn south on the Steese Highway when the driver of the Ford pickup reportedly ran the red light and hit the driver’s side of the Ford Focus, according to a release from the Fairbanks Police Department. Ambrose was the only person in the vehicle.
Ambrose was taken to the Fairbanks Memorial Hospital, but died shortly after arriving, police said. His family has been notified.
The driver of the Ford F-250 had a passenger, police said, and neither were injured. The name of the driver of the truck was not released.
Alcohol is not considered a factor in the crash, Fairbanks police said.
