Authorities say a 4-year-old girl was buried under snow that slid off a roof in Fairbanks on Saturday. The girl later died.
A North Pole grandmother contacted Alaska State Troopers at 1:21 p.m. when she couldn’t find her granddaughter, Alexcia Baril, according to an online dispatch.
“Family began the search after a large amount of snow broke free of the metal roof on the residence,” troopers wrote. “The child was located buried under 5 feet of snow on the back porch.”
Alexcia was not breathing and didn’t have a pulse when she was found. Medical personnel transported her to Fairbanks Memorial Hospital, where she was stabilized.
She was later flown to a hospital in Anchorage for further treatment, according to the dispatch.
AST spokeswoman Megan Peters said in an email that the state medical examiner’s office in Anchorage had reached out to troopers to notify them of the girl’s death on Monday.
