Anchorage students enjoy a day off with fresh powder
What’s better than the first significant snowfall? When it happens on a day that students in the Anchorage School District already have off.
Friday was an in-service day, so instead of racing to class, best friends Oceana Gamel Howes, Ava Evans, and Emily Robinson spent the morning speeding down the popular sledding hill at Service High School.
They say the fresh coat of powder is irresistible.
“It is kind of like annual Alaska baptism,” Evans said.
After all, the past few winters have taught them to enjoy the snow while it’s still around.
“They’ve been kind of disappointing. There was no snow. This one is, so far, a lot better,” Gamel Howes said.
The girls hope the snow will stick around and that Friday’s winter weather is just a taste of what’s to come.
