E.R. visits up with icy weather
ANCHORAGE - Icy conditions in Anchorage are taking their toll in the form of visits to the Emergency Room. Hospitals report ice-related injuries are up since the frozen rain hit two days ago.
Paramedics are also responding to more slips and falls. Many people are becoming victims in their own driveways. On Friday, paramedics responded to a woman who slipped and broke her leg right outside her front door. A few days earlier they tended to a man who broke his ankle while he was putting ice melt down in his driveway.
Ice-gripping cleats are a good investment to keep people on their feet, but some stores are running low. An Anchorage True Value Hardware Store reported they had sold fifty pairs in a single day. They were currently out of ice melt, but were expecting a new shipment soon.
