John Coghill formally resigned his state House of Representatives post for a Senate seat Tuesday, triggering the process for finding a replacement.

The state Republican Party will review and interview applicants through early November.

Randy Ruedrich, the party chairman, invited residents from House District 11, which includes the North Pole area, to apply for Coghill's vacated House post. Republicans are looking for "a representative as equally dedicated to individual freedom and economic opportunity as (Coghill) has proven to be," Ruedrich stated in a news release.

Candidates have until 5 p.m. Nov. 4, a Wednesday, to forward applications to the party. A district committee will then interview qualified applicants before hosting a party meeting to review and score candidates' information. The party will then forward three names to Gov. Sean Parnell for consideration, according to the release.

Applicants must have lived in the district since summer 2007 and been a Republican since June 1, 2008, to qualify for the post, according to the party's Web site. Application material can be found at that site (www.alaskarepublicans.com).

The party has followed the replacement process nine times in the past 10 years in similar situations, the release stated.
