Southcentral Alaska now has its first recreational marijuana retail store.
Red Run Cannabis Company opened its new shop at 5455 Kenai Spur Road at noon on Monday. Owner Eric Derleth said the shop had more than 200 people come through in the first couple hours.
Red Run is approved to grow and sell marijuana. Derleth said because the company’s licenses weren’t issued until last Friday, their crop is still in the beginning stages and won’t be ready for processing until January. In the meantime, Red Run is selling product from Kasilof-based Greatland Ganja.
“Ours is going to be a craft cannabis, boutique-style shop with higher end glassware,” Derleth said. “Once we get the hydroponic line opened, ours will be as good as you can get anywhere.”
Retail shops are already open in Fairbanks and Valdez. Anchorage’s first retail location is expected to be open in a few weeks.
