The Anchorage Ski Club provides training, and volunteers are rewarded with free lift passes for their service.

ANCHORAGE – The Anchorage Ski Club is looking for more volunteers, and is hosting a special event Saturday to recruit more Alaskans.

Founded in 1937, the club operates the Arctic Valley ski area and relies on volunteers to keep it running. John Koltun, ski club president, said volunteers don’t need any prior experience: The club provides training, and volunteers are rewarded with free lift passes for their service.

The volunteer training event begins at 9:30 a.m. Dec. 21, and orientation kicks off at 10:00 a.m. Basic volunteer and lift training runs until 5 p.m., Koltun said, and lodge-only training runs until around 1:00 p.m.
