President Dwight D. Eisenhower appointed Mike Stepovich as territorial governor in 1957.

FAIRBANKS, Alaska (AP) – Services for former Alaska territorial Gov. Mike Stepovich will be held next week in Fairbanks.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., Feb. 28, at Sacred Heart Cathedral.

The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reports (http://is.gd/QU5Dq2) the Rosary and viewing will be the evening of Feb. 27 at Immaculate Conception Church.

Stepovich died Friday in San Diego at the age of 94 after suffering a head injury in a fall.

President Dwight D. Eisenhower appointed Stepovich as territorial governor in 1957. He served a year before resigning for an unsuccessful bid for U.S. Senate.

After that, he practiced law in Fairbanks, where he and his wife, Matilda, raised their 13 children.

Stepovich had lived for the last 30 years in Medford, Ore., but maintained Alaska residency.
