Two-time Olympian Jessica Schultz returns home to teach
ANCHORAGE – It’s not too often a two-time Olympian walks into the Anchorage Curling Club.
But that’s what happening this weekend when East High School alum Jessica Schultz came back home and decided to dedicate some time to giving instruction.
“I started curling at the Anchorage Curling Club way back in the day,” Schultz said. “It’s great to come back home and be a part of it.”
Schultz stamped a ticket to Sochi after her team won the U.S. Olympic Trials. She also competed in the 2006 games in Torino.
“Just walking into the opening ceremonies and being a part of this greater team is a huge honor,” she said. “I look forward to doing it again in Sochi.”
On Saturday, members of both the girls and boys Alaska state championship curling teams were on hand to get up-close instruction from Schultz. The juniors will be going to Seattle at the end of January for nationals.
“When we do get people at this level that come in to coach us juniors, we try to soak up as much information as we can,” said Naimy Schommer of the Alaska girls’ team.
