Spending proposal includes salary increases, teacher cuts

ANCHORAGE – After Anchorage School District officials unveiled their plan for dealing with a projected $23 million budget shortfall Thursday, school board President Tam Agosti-Gisler said the deep cuts would be felt districtwide.

The budget proposal calls for 219 position cuts, decreased spending for school supplies and student travel and cuts to middle and elementary school spending over previous year levels. But the proposal also outlines increased spending for ASD Attendance Center salaries and more than $3 million for new “pending negotiations.”
