Annual holiday themed run focuses on awareness and money for research
ANCHORAGE- Hundreds of Anchorage runners and walkers braved the snow Saturday for the Jingle Bell Run.
Runners said it’s a fun way to kick-off the holidays by helping others.
More than 500 people signed up to participate; twice as many as past years. Besides dressing up, getting some exercise and having a good time, runners were raising awareness and money for arthritis research. Event organizers said more than 47 million people in the US, including 800 children in Alaska, live with the disease.
“I had friends and family with arthritis and know how debilitating it can be,” runner Kate Nixon said.
The goal for the event was to raise $43,000 for arthritis research.
