Dimond continues it's air rifle dominance
ANCHORAGE – Riflery season came to a close this weekend where all eight teams competed in the Cook Inlet Conference championship. It’s arguably the “state” championship.
Dimond won for a fifth straight year with Eagle River taking second. Cathryn Papsodora, a junior at Eagle River, won the individual title by four points over West’s Marina Noble. Eagle River’s Tristan Henderson took third.
Papsodora said she knew after her freshman season she could become a champion.
“I came in fifth place and I was just like, ‘you know what? I’m going to get first place,’” she said.
It was Papsodora’s mindset, but also her technique, that put her over the top.
“This year I really learned how to use my rifle to my best advantage,” she said. “I really got used to my positions.”
Up next for the Eagle River shooter is the Junior Olympics in Fairbanks and then regionals in Utah.
