The Diamond Girls Motorcycle Club and the Abused Women’s Aid in Crisis (AWAIC) are riding to raise funds and awareness for domestic abuse and sexual assault. This will be the second Ride AWAIC event.
Events like this fall within the Diamond Girls mission statement, according to its president Shaina Palmer. She says the club is about female empowerment and getting involved in the community. Palmer added they partnered with AWAIC because there is a high rate of sexual assault and domestic abuse in Alaska and they wanted to give back. All proceeds will go to AWAIC.
The event is open to all riders, independent clubs or associations. It starts at The Rock Wood Fired Kitchen near the Northway Mall and will head north to the Denali Harley-Davidson in Wasilla. Participants can expect to make five stops along the way, door prizes, a barbecue and a band at the Harley-Davidson. Palmer recommends getting to The Rock a little early to get registered, which costs $25. The event starts at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 20. More information can be found on the event’s Facebook page.
