The fire warning is in effect Thursday evening through Friday evening.
ANCHORAGE – A combination of high winds and low humidity is contributing to a fire watch issued Wednesday for the Matanuska Valley and western parts of the Kenai Peninsula.
The National Weather Service said gusts of up to 80 mph are expected in the Matanuska Valley, and western Kenai Peninsula communities could see gusts of up to 50 mph. The weather service said those winds — mixed with dry conditions — could combine to help fires spark and spread rapidly. The red flag fire warning is in effect Thursday evening through Friday evening.
People living in should check local conditions and consult with community resources before burning, NWS said.
