Rail service not in the near future

By Bonney Bowman 6:23 PM February 12, 2014

Recent reports made it seem like a new Anchorage to Wasilla commuter line was imminent, but the Alaska Railroad says that's just not the case.

ANCHORAGE - Despite rumors, rail service between Anchorage and Wasilla isn’t happening, yet.

Recent reports made it seem like a new Anchorage to Wasilla commuter line was imminent, but Tim Sullivan with the Alaska Railroad said that’s just not the case.

The railroad is not in a financial position to start new service right now, he said.

The company has talked about it, but Sullivan said it was very hypothetical.

Alaska Railroad has a board meeting on Feb. 27. Public comment about the idea is welcome.
