Hayley Francy has slept at a family friend’s house for the last three weeks. The 4-year-old was shot while sleeping in her Anchorage apartment just after midnight on October 6. Since she felt unsafe, her family decided to move to Eagle River.
“I feel so much better out here than being in that congested city,” said Hayley’s mom, Jessyca Francy.
Finding a new place to live was difficult. Thankfully, a realtor who heard what happened to Hayley told Francy about an available apartment in Eagle River. Still, the moving process was expensive, particularly when it came to replacing Hayley’s blood-stained mattress.
KTVA 11’s Problem Solvers reached out to Mattress Ranch to see if it could help. Hayley’s story compelled its employees to donate a twin mattress, box spring, frame, sheets, mattress protector and pillow. They were delivered to the family’s new apartment Tuesday afternoon.
“I like it so much,” Hayley said happily.
Her mom said she was overwhelmed by the generosity of the community.
“[It’s] beyond my wildest dreams of anything I ever expected,” Francy said.
It is still unclear who shot Hayley. Francy said the bullet came from an upstairs apartment in their building. The Anchorage Police Department said the case is open, but it has made no arrests.
