Suspect charged following East Anchorage standoff

By KTVA CBS 11 News 6:59 AM May 9, 2014
ANCHORAGE –

A man has been charged with assault following a Friday morning standoff in East Anchorage.

According to Anchorage Police Department officers on the scene, the call came in around 3:30 a.m., when a confrontation between a man and a woman in a home on the 1500 block of Beaver Place spilled out into the street.

Shots were fired, and when police arrived at the scene, they said 18-year-old Richard Leviege put the shotgun under his chin and pulled the trigger. But he had already fired all the rounds, police said, so he left the gun in the street and ran back inside the home.

Police said they did not want to force a confrontation with an intoxicated man. By then, police said other family members had left the residence and Leviege was the only person inside.

Leviege’s mom was able to persuade him to come out of the house, said Sgt. Cameron Hokenson. Police said no one was hurt during the standoff.

Leviege is charged with third-degree assault and third- and fourth-degree misconduct involving a weapon, police said.
