ANCHORAGE –

A 27-year-old man faces various assault charges after barricading himself inside a South Anchorage home Monday night.

Dozens of police officers, SWAT unit members, K9 teams and negotiators converged on the residence on the 2300 block of Ridgemont Drive following a disturbance between a man and a woman just before 8 p.m., according to the Anchorage Police Department. While the female was able to leave the home, police said Matthew Svendsen barricaded himself inside with a gun.

At 11:57 p.m., officers said he came out of the home and surrendered to police without incident.

He was charged with second, third and fourth-degree assault and interfering with a report of a domestic violence crime.
