Anchorage Police responded to a disturbance involving a male with a gun at the Carrs Safeway store on Gambell Sunday afternoon.
APD says an adult male reported 56-year-old Thomas Booker had threatened him with a gun and followed him into the grocery store at 14th Avenue and Gambell Street. Responding officers heard a shot fired in the area as they arrived on the scene around 1:15.
Booker was not located inside the store, but shortly thereafter, a woman with four children reported to the officers that a man in a green four-door Lexus had just threatened her and her children with a gun at 14th Avenue and Fairbanks Street.
Officers located the suspect vehicle about a block away at 14th Avenue and Hyder Street, surrounded the vehicle and took Booker into custody.
Police say Booker was uncooperative and disobeyed officers’ commands, which prompted police to place him in total restraints. At this point, a witness reported to police seeing Booker discharge a firearm earlier.
Police impounded the Lexus as evidence but say no gun was found.
No injuries were reported, police say.
Booker is charged with multiple counts of fourth-degree assault.
The investigation continues.
