By KTVA CBS 11 News 7:07 AM July 17, 2014
ANCHORAGE –

A motorcyclist is dead following a Hillside crash early Thursday morning, according to the Anchorage Police Department.

Officers and paramedics responded to the scene near Glen Alps Road just before 2:30 a.m. In a brief statement, APD said a nearby resident called police to report hearing a crash and discovering a motorcyclist who had gone off the road and down an embankment. The rider was identified as 31-year-old Anchorage resident Nicholas Byers, police said, and he was declared dead by medics at the scene.

While the cause of the crash remains under investigation, APD said Byers was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

His death marks the sixth motorcyclist fatality on Anchorage roads this year.
