Police investigate Spenard parking lot shooting

By KTVA CBS 11 News 12:52 PM June 30, 2014
ANCHORAGE –

Police are investigating a shooting in a Spenard hotel parking lot Sunday night that wounded one man.

The victim said he didn’t know the shooter who approached him outside the Royal Suite Lodge on Minnesota Drive and demanded money from him before opening fire. Police haven’t made any arrests and an investigation is ongoing, according to Anchorage Police Department spokeswoman Jennifer Castro.

Police said they received multiple calls shortly before midnight Sunday of shots fired near the hotel. One caller said a man had been shot in the back, Castro said. The suspect is believed to have fled in a vehicle.

When police arrived at the scene, they found a man who had been shot in the lower back. Multiple rounds were found at the scene, police said, and the man was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police ask that anyone with information call 786-8900. People can also summit a tip anonymously by calling Crime Stoppers at 561-STOP or by going online.
