Born and raised on a family farm in Minnesota, 57-year-old Paul Gebhardt has taken care of animals his entire life. He moved to Alaska in 1989 and has been raising and racing sled dogs ever since. He’s been in the Iditarod 17 times, been in the top 20 more than a dozen times and placed as high as second twice. He works as a general contractor in Kasilof.
