Anchorage Cup continues with elite competition
CHUGIAK – Scott Patterson made it back just in time for some holiday break skiing.
“I got back to my house at midnight,” Patterson said, “so this was just kind of a fun thing to do the next day.”
The three-time Nordic ski champion from South High School and current member of the University of Vermont team won Sunday’s 15-kilometer race in 39 minutes and 46.9 seconds. Patterson finished only a minute ahead of Dartmouth alum and fellow Anchorage native, Erick Packer.
“Anchorage has an awesome core group skiers that are quite fast,” Patterson said, “We can all kind of push each other and get ready for those big races later on.”
Patterson mentioned he will attempt to try and qualify for the Olympic team. For now though, local skiers are looking forward to this weekend’s Besh Cup at Kincaid and then nationals the first week of January.
