It’s not your run-of the-mill sporting event.
On Monday morning, a group of ultra-runners — those who specialize in long-distance running — got together and took off for the lane in front of them. They will continue to make a circle in the event known as “6 Days in The Dome.”
They will run from Monday morning until Sunday morning, with the winner expected to log nearly 600 miles. They hail from as close as Anchorage and as far as Australia.
Sleep as much or as little as you like.
According to race officials, this has never been done on an indoor, 400-meter track. But The Dome was the perfect fit for their needs.
At 83, Dan Baglione of Forsthill, California wears race No. 1, reserved for the oldest entrant. He has completed 36 ultra-marathons.
“The best I ever did was 272 miles,” he said. “The way I look at that is, it’s 10 marathons plus 10 miles in six days.”
Makes you want to sit down just thinking about it.
