Meet Alaskan Olympians bound for Sochi at Saturday event

ANCHORAGE – Olympians will be heading to Sochi soon, and you can wish them luck before they leave Alaska.

BP, a sponsor of Team USA, is hosting a send-off at Town Square Park this Saturday. There will be vendors, Olympic goodies and activities for kids. United Way will also be there collecting coats for kids. There will even be an opportunity to get your picture taken with cross-country skiers Kikkan Randall and Holly Brooks, both of whom are competing in the 2014 Winter Olympics.

BP says it’s a great opportunity to show our local athletes Alaska is behind them as they head off to the games.

“These women are making history,” said BP Spokesperson Dawn Patience. “They’re going off to the Olympics and representing Alaska. They are making history for the United States, and BP is so proud to be a part of it, and we want everyone to show support and wish them well sending them off to Sochi.”

Past Olympians, such as Rosey Fletcher, will also be present Saturday. The fun kicks off at 2 p.m.
