Kodiak Man Dies on Mt. McKinley52-year-old Brian Young of Kodiak died Friday morning of cardiac arrest at the 17,200 ft. high camp on Mt. McKinley.
North America’s tallest mountain claimed another life. 52-year-old Brian Young of Kodiak died Friday morning of cardiac arrest at the 17,200 ft. high camp on Mt. McKinley. Denali National Park Rangers said following a 24-hour summit, Young suddenly stopped breathing after he entered his tent to get some rest. Young’s tent mates immediately notified the Denali National Park Mountaineering Patrol, but when rangers arrived to try and revive him, he did not respond. Park rangers said they will retrieve Young's body when the weather permits. He is the fifth climber to die on Mt. McKinley this year. |

Brian was one of the 1st person to friend my daughter, Deanne Garcia, when we moved to Post Falls in 1970. We lived on Hwy 41, and Brian lived just around the corner and down the road a bit. He'd come over to visit, have cookies and milk and ask if there was anything that needed to be done.He was a sweet person and even tho he's been gone and living in Alaska for many years...he will be missed..... a lot. Prayers go to his family.
