Alaska High School football players are gearing up for another year of the pigskin.

Tonight marks the official start of the football season, across the state.

After enduring two-a-day practices for the past two weeks, teams from all over the state will finally get to put their skills to the test. And with so many more teams playing this season, the set up will be different.

The state playoffs and championship will be held at Chugiak High School coming from three divisions. Alaska School Activities Association, Director of Special Events, Isaiah Vreeman says there will be a three levels this season, a large, and the newly created small and medium levels.

"With football because there is so many kids on one team and some of the smaller schools can only field 20 kids and some of the bigger schools can field 40, that's a real disparity," said Vreeman.

Football games kickoff tonight across the state. With the Anchorage teams strapping their helmets on tomorrow night.
