ANCHORAGE -- Senator Mark Begich told Anchorage reporters today that "there are some on the House [of Representatives] side that no matter what, want to shut down the government" when it comes to the March 4 budget deadline and said the chances of an actual shutdown are "a 50-50 shot."

At a downtown Anchorage press conference today, Begich debuted a new website feature soliciting Alaskans' suggestions for cutting the federal budget.

He said solutions for cutting costs are suggested to him everyday from constituents and his office designed the page to streamline Alaskan interaction.

Begich warned that effects of a shutdown would be widely felt from social security recipients to federal workers to food inspectors.
