Rep. Berta Gardner, Anchorage-D

I believe it is the responsibility of every legislator to be available to do the state's work whenever we are called to session, and it is my personal goal to do so with exceptions for family and health needs.

I left last week to check on my elderly father and I will leave again to fulfill a promise to attend my son's graduation out of state.  I will accept per diem while I am gone because I continue to work wherever I am and because I am maintaining my Juneau housing until the end of this month in case session is extended again.

I certainly hope that we manage to adjourn within the next few days and if that happens I will lose the value of my housing for the next two weeks.  I'm not certain we have found a way out of the morass however, and I will not be surprised if we are in session again on the 18th of May.
