Pet of the Week: Violet
Violet is an adult female pit bull mix
By Matthew F. Smith

ANCHORAGE - Her name is Violet, and Friday morning, she was the last dog at the shelter.

She's an adult female pit bull mix, and though she was a stray, the Anchorage Animal Care and Control Center said she must have had an owner in the past. Violet is already well-trained, and responds to commands like sit, shake, and stay. And she even come with her own pink bandana.

Being part pit bull, the Animal Center said her short coat and abundant energy – even though she's a little older – make her a perfect fit for almost anyone looking for a pet.

“When people adopt, it's really important to look at the traits of that animal, not just how they look,” said Brook Taylor with the Animal Care Center. “Her calm demeanor, smartness, things like that, gentleness, are all great factors.”

Since she's already spayed, that means violet is available to adopt for $72, which includes her municipal dog license, vaccinations, and microchip. To contact Alaska Animal Care and Control, call 343-8118.
