ANCHORAGE - An unusual fundraiser for the Anchorage Neighborhood Health Center is turning ordinary lab coats into works of art.

There's nothing boring… the center enlisted local artists to turn their talents on white lab coats to see what they could create as a fundraiser to help pay for their new building.

The results were quite colorful, and some of the designs may even look familiar.

“You know that there are certain artists that people follow in town, so when they heard that people like Barbara Lavallee and Cindy Shake were doing coats, that got more artists interested and more people excited about the health center,” said the center’s Kate Powers.

Those lab coats will be auctioned off this Thursday at a benefit at Snow City Café that starts at 7 p.m. The event runs from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
