Teens Help Build Sand Lake BoardwalkPart of city program for youth employment in parksANCHORAGE - A new boardwalk should make it a lot easier to get to a popular fishing spot on Sand Lake. The new boardwalk is being installed mostly by teenagers as part of the city's YEP program, which stands for Youth Employment in the Parks. The teens learn great skills while they help out with community service projects. “It's a lot about perfection and measurements and making sure that everything goes in the right way and it's a little stressful and there's a lot of people working but I think it's a great project and we are working together really well,” said Claire Lubke, who was helping build the boardwalk. That new boardwalk will include a 20-foot fishing dock when it's done, which should be some time next week. |
