32 year old Byron Syvinski, charged with violently beating a young girl several months ago, was back in court today, asking for a bail reduction and release to a halfway house.

Syvinski was charged with first degree assault for the June 5 beating of an eight year old girl, but today claimed he didn't feel safe in the Anchorage Jail.

Syvinski's lawyer requested his bail be reduced to zero and he be moved to a local halfway house, and said Syvinski had recently been beat up by other inmates at the jail.

Judge Gregory Miller denied the request though, and said a halfway house would be less secure.
