School in Delta Junction Closed Monday Due to Cold
Interior Alaska making Southcentral’s temps look warm

ANCHORAGE - While this weekend felt really cold in Anchorage, the temperatures are nothing like what Interior residents are feeling. Delta Junction closed schools due to cold weather Monday morning. Over the weekend, temperatures dipped to 40-below zero, and some residents reported it was even colder.
Longtime resident Cindylou Aillaud has been through many Delta Junction cold snaps over the years, and she said the key to keeping yourself sane is to get outside even if it's just a few minutes. She said even though she didn't take her dog on a long walk, she got him outside for a little while.
Aillaud is no stranger to facing the cold. She is a retired schoolteacher. She wrote a book called "Recess at 20 Below." It features pictures of children playing outside in conditions that would make most people want to curl up by their wood stove.
She said the cold makes everything more difficult. Tires freeze almost in a square, making a rumbling sound when driving. Moisture crystallizes, creating ice fog everywhere, and making driving extremely dangerous.
