Police Investigate Car Involved in Pridefest Parade DeathOfficers said there were many car-related components that might confuse a driver unfamiliar with the sports car, but no mechanical problems were found.
Anchorage police have finished their examination of the car that ran over a marcher at the Pridefest parade last weekend and have found nothing mechanically wrong with the vehicle.
However, police said there were plenty of car-related components that might confuse a driver unfamiliar with the Triumph sports car. Edith Bailey, 70, was behind the wheel Saturday when the car accelerated and killed 50-year-old James Crump. Officers noted some issues with the transmission linkage that wasn't properly adjusted. “It's difficult to tell what gear the vehicle is in…it doesn't go into park very well, there are just some problems with that shift linkage…So, I think that is definitely something that could add to a driver's confusion trying to operate the vehicle,” said Sgt. Justin Doll of the Anchorage Police Department. The case will now be forwarded to the district attorney’s office to consider whether charges will be filed. A decision is expected within the next two weeks. |

It was an accident...why would they even consider filing charges?

Because someone died so that would be standard procedure. Someone should be held liable for the death of this young man. Whether the car owner gave permission for someone other than Ms. Bailey to drive, or the person who thought it was a good idea for a 70 year old woman to drive an older car she was not familiar with. Making a bad decision should have consequences for someone other than the deceased.

They will be held liable. I understand there was a parade last week with children walking around a vehicle... who are you folks?
