ANCHORAGE – There are now more options for people who rely on the People Mover bus system.

Recently the buses added fare boxes, which will allow riders to use magnetic cards to pay for their rides or passes.

According to the city’s public transportation director, the system may be unfamiliar in Anchorage, but it’s not exactly new.

“Well this is certainly new technology for Alaska,” said Judy Tymick. “These fare boxes have been installed in thousands of buses in the Lower 48. Anytime you travel to a large city you have probably seen this before and same with the TBM machines. This is tried and true technology, but it is new for Alaska.”
