ANCHORAGE - Parents and kids have less than two weeks to prepare for the school year – this week parents and kids were registering for classes.
For some parents the back to school process can be stressful.
“We got two returning students and one kindergartner, so you know, I got to fill out more paperwork for her,” said parent Mona Gregory.
The Anchorage School District believes providing early registration sets each child up for a positive and successful school year.
“It’s really just an opportunity for us to once again touch parents, and have an opportunity to talk to them, encourage them to encourage their children,” said ASD Superintendent Jim Browder.
For ASD teachers it has been a long summer and they’re ready to get back to teaching. “I [have] actually been working in my classroom since July 26 or so,” said Joan Haskel.
ASD is trying to help make the school year go smoother for both students and parents by establishing a partnership with the United Way of Anchorage.
“We are making sure that students that need some extra support are getting what they need so that they are able to come to school attend regularly be in good shape to stay on track,” said Michele Brown.
They are all working together to get a 90 percent graduation rate.
