South High Parents Uneasy After Student ThreatParents of South Anchorage High School students are still uneasy about their children's safety after a student threatened classmates in a violent poem.The Anchorage School District heard from hundreds of concerned parents of South Anchorage High School students at a meeting Friday regarding a violent poem written by a student several months ago. Parents are still worried about their children’s safety at South High School even after the student was suspended for the remainder of the school year. “The student who wrote the lyrics was immediately suspended on emergency suspension for 45 days and we are now currently recommending that student for expulsion,” said South Anchorage High School Principal Kersten Johnson-Struempler. Many parents felt school officials reacted too slow in reprimanding the student, who one grandparent claims was a bully. “He has bullied my grandson the whole year long, my grandson gets sick before he goes to school in the morning, because he fears for his life, and this has started since August.” South High officials say they were unaware of any bullying from the student, and would take things one-step at time; they were also unsure whether they had information regarding any prior incidents. Parents also accused the School District of being misinformed about the severity of the threat. “A lot of kids really had no information, and so that magnified the threat in their minds. So I think we really need to find a way to get that information out earlier to the kids,” a concerned parent said. There has been increased security put in place at the school, and officials say events are also scheduled to go on as planned, including prom this Saturday and next week's assembly. “We do have our security staff who will be at the prom, all of our administrators will be at the prom, and there is also Hotel Captain Cook security that will be at the prom,” said Principal Struempler. While some parents want increased security at upcoming events, others say they refuse to have their children give up individual freedoms because of one student’s actions. |

The fact the school's security will be at the prom is the most disturbing thing to me. I dont want my child incarcerated over childish accusations, or gossip. I you love them you will keep your young ones home, and leave this corrupt place after they graduate.

Had this been written in any other high school, people would have laughed it off, and moved forward. These people are pampered rich kids who live their lives in fear over a youths poor choice. They are the type of people that make the Salem witch trials believable. This was a young man acting immature. If anything, its more of a statement of how secure they feel the school system is.

Could this be the columbine generation's tendancy to gang up, and bully the "chosen" Our country is supposed to protect the innocent until proven guilty. Freedom of speech isnt just a phrase. You cannot convict someone before a crime happens. This is wrong!
