Teens from the Covenant House get job advice from professionals

ANCHORAGE - For many of us clothes shopping can be a dreadful experience, but for others it’s an enjoyable hobby – especially for teens.

Mark Libertus, 19, and Tazlina Harker, 20, are part of a group from Covenant House, a shelter for homeless teens.

They took part in a four-hour workshop about the retail industry from the experts at Old Navy, on Dimond Blvd.

One of the lessons: what not to wear to a job interview:

“Opened my eyes to look better for a job, especially a job you go to, that's it's not just an attitude thing, how you dress, how to present yourself,” said Mark Libertus, a teen looking for a job.

“This means a lot to me because before I came here I didn't know what to wear,” said Tazlina Harker.

But most importantly was how to get a job and keep it.

“Great opportunity to kind of upgrade myself to be able to get a job,” Harker said.

They learned valuable skills these teens say can be taken off the rack, and applied to their lives.
