ANCHORAGE - Alaska State Troopers now have three new tactical vehicles they hope will help keep officers safe during crisis situation.

The Lenco BearCats—which cost about $286,000 each—were paid for by leftover grant money from the past ten years.

Troopers say the heavy-duty trucks will be used in emergencies to protect officers and others.

“We have the ability to get in closer when we're trying to negotiate with people, when we have critical incidents that require evacuations of citizens from an area... if we have a shooter in a location and we need to get them out,” said Captain Randy Hahn.

Two BearCats will go to State Trooper Special Emergency Reaction Teams in Soldotna and Fairbanks. The other will be used by troopers in Anchorage and the Mat-Su Valley.

Trying to add inches it looks like to me. Lots of dangerous loonies in Alaska but, they all work in LEO.

Let's see how brave these negative folks would be if they were the person tasked with making first contact with someone barricaded behind a locked door with his family as hostages.

Seems to me they are gearing up for a lot more then they are saying. No crises here in Alaska warrants such a machine. UNLESS it is about to happen via economic collapse ????????

So.. we can afford trucks which we don't need but we can't afford to give our schools the things they need. Looks like ALASKAS KIDS ARE AT A LOSS AGAIN! Way to go Alaska!!
