The Mat-Su Borough Assembly is asking voters to pick up the tab for area school renovations.

This week, the Assembly proposed $214 million in school bonds, an $87 million increase to the package previously approved by the Mat-Su School Board and superintendent.

If approved during the Borough's October 4 election, the bonds would cost individual taxpayers $154 annually.

State funds would account for 70 percent of bond project costs, including renovations to several schools throughout the district, including Valley Pathways School in Palmer and Big Lake Elementary School.
