A city official has confirmed a popular Italian restaurant chain is about to open its doors in East Anchorage

Assemblyman Paul Honeman said a building under construction at Tikahtnu Commons will soon be the home of Anchorage’s first Olive Garden restaurant.

Honeman said he’s met with the project developer, who said the company is excited about the Anchorage venture and is already scouting another location in South Anchorage for a second restaurant

“I think it is a great development, a great addition to our city,” Honeman said. “Of course, per capita, we spend a lot more consumable money on eating out, so I think they picked a great place to venture into their market and we have been waiting for them for a long time.”

The restaurant is officially scheduled to open in 2012, but Honeman said it could open as early as November.

"Now, if we can just get a Krispy Kreme, I think we will be in heaven," Honeman said. "Won't we?"
