Local Radio Station Remembers 9/11Anchorage’s radio station KFAT 92.9 has designed bracelets to sell to the community to help Alaskans honor the victims and heroes of Sept. 11.As the nation prepares to honor the lives of more than 3,000 Americans who died during the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, Alaskans are doing their part to remember. Anchorage’s radio station KFAT 92.9 has designed bracelets to sell to the community to help Alaskans honor the victims and heroes of Sept. 11. “It affected everybody, it doesn’t matter what part of the country you live in,” said Brad Erickson, a morning show radio host for KFAT.
Thousands of Alaska based soldiers, many of whom joined the military after the Sept. 11 attacks, are fighting wars overseas.
“My husband was down the street from the towers, and that’s why he joined the United States Air Force," said Kimberly Mendez, a radio host for KFAT. "He wanted to go to Afghanistan to fight for our country,”
Mendez said she hopes the country, and Alaskans, can come together with the help of these bracelets.
Other Anchorage families, like Stephanie Manning's, said the anniversary is about educating the next generation about the events that shaped their world today.
“I want to make sure they know they’re very lucky to live in America,” said Manning.
Proceeds from the bracelet sales will benefit the newly constructed Fisher House of Alaska, which helps military families with housing while their loved ones receive medical treatment at nearby hospitals.
KFAT will be selling the blue and gold bracelets for $3.00 each until the end of September.
