An annual fundraiser for disaster support services statewide, the Taste of Mardi Gras kicks off tonight in downtown Anchorage.

The street festival was first held as a fundraiser to support recovery efforts after Hurricane Katrina, and continues to bring in money for Red Cross services around the state.

Michelle Houlihan, chief executive officer for the Red Cross of Alaska, said the organization is trying to bring in $50,000 through the event.
