ANCHORAGE - Representative Les Gara, D-Anchorage, wants Alaskans to have lifetime licenses for hunting and fishing.

Gara filed a bill Tuesday that would save Alaska residents the hassle of applying for a new license every year. His House Bill 157 would also save the state the expense of the annual paperwork.

“It saves people the headache of going out fishing their first time of the year or hunting their first time of the year and realizing they forgot to get their license. It's a convenience thing more than it is a cost thing,” said Gara.

Gara also said the bill is written so the lifetime licenses would not have a budget impact on Fish and Game programs.

The bill goes to the Fisheries Committee first, and if it passes would then move on to the Resources Committee and Finance Committee.
