Lawmakers Discuss Oil & Gas Tax ChangesState lawmakers discuss changes to Alaska’s current oil gas tax structures known as Alaska’s Clear and Equitable Share, or ACES.Lawmakers are gearing up to discuss proposed changes to Alaska's oil and gas tax structure. Governor Sean Parnell and several legislators want to change the current tax structure, known as Alaska's Clear and Equitable Share, or ACES. Supporters of the changes say the state's production numbers are being hurt by what they say is an anti-business tax structure. The bill has drawn criticism from other lawmakers though, who say it amounts to nothing but a $2 billion annual giveaway to oil companies. Tomorrow at the downtown offices of the legislative information office, the house finance committee will be talking to both native corporations and local businesses that could be affected by the proposed tax change. ANSCA Regional Corporation officials will testify at 9am, and Alaska businesses will give their take at 1pm. All the meetings are open to the public. |
