There are new and reduced catch limits this year for Southeast Alaska. The 2011 State Fishing Regulations Booklet lists a five per species catch limit for the Anchorage area, but that has been changed.

The Ship Creek Hatchery supplies the rainbow trout, salmon, and arctic char that are regularly stocked in Anchorage lakes, but it is currently closed for renovations and won't have any new fish ready until Spring 2012.

Because of the hatchery’s closure, for the rest of the year, the State Department of Fish and Game has reduced the catch limits for local lakes to just two fish of each species with only one fish bigger than 12 inches allowed.

“Before you go hunt or fish, check what the regulations are for that area by going to the fish and game website or by contacting them in person or talking to a trooper,” said Brett Ledford, Alaska Wildlife Trooper.
