A college degree can open a lot of doors for students, however a big hurdle in getting there is paying for a college education.

This Sunday, Jan. 30, there will be an opportunity to help potential and current college students fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid.

The FAFSA is the one gateway application for all forms of financial aid including loans, grants and scholarships but filling out the form can be confusing.

"This is a time where we have financial aid experts across the state as well as community volunteers helping individuals walk through that line-by-line application and as you would guess, when you have a federal application we could all use a little extra help," said Lora Jorgensen of the Alaska Commission on Post-Secondary Education.

The College Goal Sunday is part of a national program designed to help both first-time students entering college and adults looking to return.
