The federal entity managing the exploration and development of the nation's offshore resources needs your help: they are looking for public comment on a proposed plan to conduct offshore drilling of the coast of northwest Alaska.

Shell Gulf of Mexico, Inc., submitted a revised exploration plan to the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM). They hope to receive permission to explore for oil in shallow water in the Chukchi Sea starting in July 2012.

To review the plan itself, visit http://www.boem.gov/ShellChukchi2012

There are two separate comment periods. The first allows the public to submit comments regarding environmental analysis, and ends on November 26. The second allows for comment on Shell’s revised statement itself, and ends December 7.

To provide public comment, and check out other public comments, visit http://www.boem.gov/About-BOEM/Public-Engagement/Public-Engagement-Opportunities.aspx and click on "Open Comment Documents."
