PALMER - Fairgoers are streaming into an exhibit of human bodies, organs and other parts that have gone through a process called “plastination” - which replaces fat and water with plastics for indefinite preservation.

The traveling exhibit Our Body: the Universe Within has appeared at various fairs around the country.

Fair Marketing Director Dean Phipps said teachers and medical professionals have been expressed interest in bringing groups.

Phipps said it's an educational experience.

"Certainly there are some people that this exhibit is not for them and they choose not to attend it, but boy, there's been a lot of interest, lines here all throughout the week,” said Phillips. “I haven't had one complaint from people who have been at the exhibit."

A similar exhibit is coming soon to the Anchorage Museum.

Phipps said the fair didn't intend to compete with the museum, but was too far along with scheduling the exhibit to call it off.

He hopes the exposure at the fair will generate more interest for the museum.

And people need to ask where these bodies came from. China sells the bodies of people they have executed. Personally, I don't want to view what was once a living person posed for tasteless 'art'.
